Director James McTeigue talks The Raven
TF scored an early screening of the trailer for The Raven at Comic-Con earlier this year and now Edgar Allan Poe fans can see it online. Hot on the heels of that trailer, director James McTeigue has also whipped the horses and started the press bandwagon rolling properly. The film is described as a gritty thriller, in which Poe (John Cusack) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to hunt down a mad serial killer who's using Poe's own works as the basis for a string of brutal murders.Sounds gruesome and McTeigue says he won't be pulling any punches. Asked if he'll be shying away from an R rating he told Fangoria, "No, uh-uh.""I'm not trying to compete with Saw; Saw is very particular and we're more in the psychological suspense-thriller mode rather than a straight-out horror film," he said before adding, "I would say the tone is more like a film like Se7en, that's where it falls."Poe was an alcoholic and a drug user and McTeigue says the film doesn't shy away from that. So how did John Cusack get into that mindset?"He lost weight to give himself the drawn sort of Poe look, he grew a goatee and died his hair a little blacker than it usually is, to really get into Poe's physical space," McTeigue reveals."And then, John always talked about how he was friendly with Hunter S. Thompson and he could see parallels between Hunter and Poe, and I think that helped inform the character for John."The Raven also stars Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen and opens in 2012.
Director Pete Travis forced off Dredd
Director Pete Travis has been forced off Dredd - the latest film adaptation about the 2000AD lawman Judge Dredd - according to reports in the US press. The Los Angeles Times claims that scriptwriter and producer Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine) has taken over the post-production process and may seek a co-director credit."Although the specifics of the disagreement that led to Travis' dismissal are up for debate, two sources said it arose when Travis and producers and executives in charge of the production did not see eye-to-eye on footage Travis was delivering, " says the LA Times, quoting three anonymous sources."A separate person involved in the film maintained that although Travis is no longer involved in post-production, he is keeping up with progress via the Internet and has not been pushed aside."Speculation also suggests that there may be reshoots. We know what Dredd would say: "Drokk!!"

Lost actor joins Django Unchained
You do not recognise the title, but you will for sure be familiar with face. Yep, M.C Gainey can be a classic 'that guy' and he's just grew to become an associate of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. He'll be playing Large John Brittle, one of the outlaws who Jamie Foxx's Django tracks lower throughout his revenge mission. It is a small sector (though bigger than Gainey's 'Man Behind Man' credit in P Niro's The Fan) but significant, and Gainey will probably be ideal for this.M.C's probably most broadly noted for playing Lost regular Tom Friendly, but additionally, you will have observed him in Disadvantage Air, Sideways and Terminator 3.He's awesome, and that we are glad he's associated with QT.

Talkback: Is Melissa McCarthy an Oscar Contender?
Melissa McCarthy sailed through her SNL hosting gig last night on pure charm and panache, even if the skits weren’t particularly novel. Coming off her recent Emmy win for Mike & Molly, she’s officially the most likable (and most liked) dame in primetime right now, which begs the question: Is this a wave of well wishes that can lead to the Oscar dais? Should we expect her name to pop in the Best Supporting Actress category alongside shoo-ins Octavia Spencer and Vanessa Redgrave? As our own Mr. VanAirsdale noted in the premiere edition of this year’s Oscar index, there’s an attractive, Jacki Weaver-sized void in the Best Supporting Actress rundown: If Octavia Spencer and Vanessa Redgrave nab spots while The Descendants’s Shailene Woodley and The Artist ‘s up-and-comer Brnice Bejo notch the third and fourth rungs, we have room for either an Academy-friendly talent — former nominees Janet McTeer and Judi Dench are promising — or a sprightly young thespian with charm galore, meaning Jessica Chastain’s fun, if one-dimensional performance in The Help qualifies, as does McCarthy in Bridesmaids. The game-changing element, it seems, is that 2011 is already billed as a banner year for lady-led films, which makes the idea of Bridesmaids kudos all the more enticing to Oscar voters. Hell, The Help will rack up two nominations at the very least. The damning element, though, is that Bridesmaids is undoubtedly an ensemble piece, and none of its stars stand out as obvious honorees. I preferred Rose Byrne and Wendi McLendon-Covey to McCarthy, personally, but the combination of likability, talent, “ladies in comedy” good cheer, and sheer statue cred make McCarthy the perfect storm of viable attributes. It’s easy to honor the previously honored. That Emmy may be as much of a calling card as Helen Hunt’s combined three Emmys were back in 1997. (She won a fourth after her Oscar win.) What do you think? Does McCarthy have a chance at Eddie Murphy’s Oscars, or will Janet McTeer storm to the Kodak in her place? Transformers 3 Online Free

'Whitney,' 'Night' go in early stages Yahoo
Broadcast TV's new streaming trend is turning out to be a river. NBC is just about the latest network use a full-episode preview online prior to the on-air bow, joining up with Yahoo to provide sneak peeks from the latest payments of recent comedies "Up Through The Night" and "Whitney." Fox began the practice by having an early window on iTunes along with other digital platforms for "New Girl," which wound up validating the move with strong rankings because of its premiere. ABC and also the CW adopted suit concentrating on the same methods meant for "Revenge," "The Key Circle" and "Hart of Dixie." While partial previews of approaching TV fare happen to be commonplace recently, putting a whole episode online would be a line not entered in fear that digital sampling could cannibalize crucial rankings for that premiere. What "Girl" might have demonstrated is this is a risk worth running in search of improving word-of-mouth or at best subsequent broadcast tune-in. The 3rd episode of "Evening" and 2nd episode of "Whitney" is going to be on Yahoo on Tuesday morning, eventually in front of "Night's" Wednesday period of time and 2 days in front of "Whitney's" regular slot.
